Vegetation: Alpine meadow to Douglas fir and riparian hardwoods to high desert scrub oak, yucca, and cholla and prickly pear cactus. Frequently Seen Animals: deer, elk, native Apache trout (stocked, permit required), black bear (infrequent).

Tips: Trail lies in Bear Wallow Wilderness Area. A fence at 7.6 miles marks the boundary with San Carlos Apache Reservation. Do not proceed beyond this point without special use permit obtained from Reservation.
